In Home Newborn Photogrpahy

Hi hi, I’m Calli- newborn and family Photographer near the greater Phoenix area. Today I’m sharing some super dreamy in home newborn photos with mom. Brianna and baby Adrian helping me break down a few newborn photo tips, what exactly are newborn lifestyle photos and how to prepare without the stress. Brianna runs a local business here called The Tidy Citrus that specializes in home organization. She is an organizing extraordinaire and has so much love and warmth that radiates from her. Her home matches that same energy. I always have the best time when I take photos with Brianna and little baby Adrian was such a champ. He didn’t make a peep the whole time. I hope you enjoy!

That beautiful crib you see in this photo, Brianna’s husband made from hand out of a bed frame she loved. It’s a co-sleeper that he attached to the side of her bed and stuff like that reaalllly just gets me good. I mean… how beautiful is that?!

In Home Newborn Photography Tips

My top 3 tips for successful in home newborn photos:

  1. Don’t stress the cleaning. Seriously. Find the spaces with the most natural light that you gravitate towards. Whether that be the nursery, your bedroom, the kitchen (please believe I’ve taken some of the most amazing newborn photos in the light of the kitchen) or the living room. Pick a couple and do a light clean on those the day, or two before. Remove any extra clutter and we are good to go!

  2. Wear neutrals. Babies tend to be more red and pink in their first couple months so we want to avoid any clothing on anyone that will cast more color onto their skin. I’ve also found that simple clothing lets the focus stay on the subjects, rather than be a distraction. Please keep in mind that simple DOES NOT mean boring or plain. There are so many ways to get some diversity into the mix: think textures and mixing neutrals (white, cream, camel and gray).

  3. If it works for you and the baby, I always love to be there when a feeding takes place. Whatever that feeding looks for your family, if you’re comfortable with it, I want to be there. So, we try to plan our time around when a feeding will occur. I find the feedings to be such an incredible time for connection and everything is naturally slows down.

Lifestyle Newborn Photos

Have you ever wondered what makes a “lifestyle” photo different from regular photography? It’s a question I actually get asked a lot. Lifestyle newborn photos, to me, mean natural, go with the flow, a glimpse of life as it would be. I’m not one to overly pose- not the baby, or you. I love a good swaddle and I’ll make sure to capture all those amazing details of your new babe. However, newborn lifestyle photos will include a lot of holding and snuggling and kissing and me following you around while you do all the things for your baby. It truly is me capturing your lifestyle which sometimes makes people nervous. Someone said to me recently, “but my lifestyle is so NOT glamorous.” My response to that is- it doesn’t have to be glamorous to be beautiful. Not even close. What makes newborn photos so special is when you can feel like love and the energy that gets poured into those little souls. That’s the everyday stuff. Big time I want to see you in your element taking care of your baby.

Outdoor Newborn Photos

Weather permitting, I always love to take the session outside for a few newborn pictures. Whether you want those to be newborn family photos, or just of the baby, or newborn photos with mom- popping outside for a bit sets a different tone. I find a bit of fresh air at the end really resets everyone, some deep breaths and we really settle in to those final capture moments. As you can see with Briana, we took one of her Grandmother’s chairs outside and got some amazing breastfeeding photos. Newborn photos at home doesn’t necessarily mean we have to stay inside the whole time. If going outside is something that interests you, please mention it to me and I’ll make sure it happens!

If you have questions about professional newborn photos, please reach out- I know it can be overwhelming. I’d love to chat more about your vision and expectations, while you get to know me a bit more. I want your newborn photo session to be an extremely calm, loving and memorable time. I do everything in my power to make sure that takes place, all while documenting this new journey of your life in the most authentic way possible.
