Outdoor Newborn Photos

Hello! Calli here, Natural Newborn Photographer serving the greater Phoenix, AZ area. Popping in today to tell you all about my latest outdoor newborn photography session. I got to spend it with the Woods Family along the way to Canyon Lake in celebration of beautiful baby Ida. Thanks for being here!

Top 5 Reasons Outdoor Newborn Photography Might Be For You

  1. You love that golden hour glow… you and me both. I feel like outdoor newborn photos feel more like lifestyle newborn photos. There is so much free movement and exploring going on. While we will definitely get some detailed shots of your brand new babe, I’m pretty much going to follow you around while you bask in the sinking sun, holding your baby close.

  2. You want newborn family photos- kids are easier outside running free. For family newborn photos, older siblings are considered as well. I have kids too, I get it. Sometimes trying to keep them contained indoors and sitting still just doesn’t cut it and that’s fine! This is when an outdoor newborn photoshoot comes in handy. Let them roam wild! I promise I’ll capture it all and it’ll be magnificent.

  3. You’re an outside type of family. Mine is too. It’s when we do our best work- together. If you’ve ever wondered, “How do you take newborn pictures outside,” let’s chat about it. It’s easier than you think, I promise. A cozy blanket, a neutral bassinet and an open field and we are good to go!

  4. Your house is under construction. This has happened more times than you think. Either that, or people are in the process of moving- often comes with the territory of additional family members. So, no problem. Let’s pick a place that is super special to your family and go enjoy a glorious evening out there.

  5. You want something different. An outdoor baby photoshoot, while gaining popularity, is still not the norm and we like to branch out around here.

Timing

If you’re wondering when to do newborn photos, I always recommend 5-14 days after birth. So, since we’re looking at outdoor newborn photos in Arizona, I’d recommend early Fall and early Spring. In my experience, these are the best times for newborn photos outside in the desert. What time of day is best for newborn photos outside? Early morning (with the sun) or that magical hour before sunset.

Outdoor Newborn Photoshoot Ideas

It’s easier for me to paint you a picture of what I envision in my mind rather than type out a list for this one. When I think of outdoor newborn photos, I think of a mother holding her infant tight to her chest while he hair blows in the wind. I think of siblings running around a tree with a strong scent of orange blossoms. I think of mom and dad holding hands as they walk over a hill together, newborn in tow. I think of sweet baby forehead kisses and warm light bouncing off of eyelashes. I think of breastfeeding photos in a meadow with laughter in the background. If you’re curious about an outdoor baby photoshoot, send me an email and we can talk all about it!

Newborn Family Photos Outside

In my professional opinion, you can’t go wrong. Whether you choose to do your newborn photos indoors, or go for something different and have an outdoor baby photoshoot, you’re going to get great photos. It totally just depends on the vibe you’re going for. In-home newborn photos will get you amazing memories of the place you brought your child home to. An outdoor newborn photo session will give you a whimsical glance into an hour of your family life outside. And if that’s where your family loves to be, I think that’s where would should do it. xoxox
